The Belsona Academy

Welcome to The Belsona Academy, a weekly 'digital digest' of radical and unorthodox electronic audio. Spinning off of the themes covered by DJ Thomas Bey William Bailey's 2009 book-length survey "Micro Bionic", this podcast attempts to portray, as accurately as possible, the state of electronic sound production in a restlessly accelerating and chaotic 21st century. Each weekly episode will showcase a different artist from the more interesting sub-genres of electronic music. All material presented, if not exclusive to this show, will be hard to come by otherwise. Exclusive live recordings, outtakes, unreleased tracks, interviews, and much more will be part of the Belsona Academy educational experience in pure sound.

Episode 2: Barcelona bat recordings from EVOL

This week's episode features the dynamic duo behind the extreme computer music group EVOL (Anna Ramos & Roc Jimenez de Cisneros), presenting some very intriguing echolocation bat call recordings, taken from numerous locations scattered around Barcelona.

This is an interesting deviation in style from artists normally identified with their "Punani" series of works dealing with psychedelia, fractal geometry, algorithmic composition and noise, it's also the online debut of what may bloom into a new creative phase of their work. Check www.vivapunani.org for more information and updates.

Our first contribution comes from the noted 'absolute music' composer and bio-acoustic researcher Francisco Lopez, who, with this exclusive live set, provides us with an object lesson in dynamic fluidity and modern applications of 'musique concrete' technique.
